Moving Castles has been producing glorious power pop since 2011's acclaimed Twin Daggers EP, which scored the band much critical attention and landed their music in major television shows such as New Girl, Pretty Little Liars and Shameless and others based on the strength of songs such as "Warhol" and "Heroin". Their latest offering, 2015's The Want EP, consisting of four songs that will be on the band's first full-length album due out later this year, finds Moving Castles moving further toward the spirit of their vintage power-pop and punk influences The Clash, Bowie, XTC, Cheap Trick and ELO while still managing to remain lyrically self-aware and sonically modern.
Recorded in 2014 at home and in various living rooms and bedrooms across Texas, The Want EP's sound has a surprising level of sophistication and polish for its non-existent budget and DIY production. Songwriter John H weaves tales of quarter-life crisis that harbor all of the requisite downer feelings of the mid-20's: jealousy, disillusionment, excess and existential dread over a bed of crunchy indie rock guitars and utterly unshakeable hooks. The demo for the title track “The Want” was featured in the 2014 film Afternoon Delight.
